Microneedling & Nanoneedling

Rhiannon is excited to offer microneedling!

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a technique of inserting fine needles into the skin with the purpose of rejuvenation. When used as a facial or body treatment the tiny wounds created by the fine needles cause new cells and collagen to be released as well as allow space in the skin to absorb up to 3000% more product. In conjunction with natural serums developed from Chinese herbs, the possible results are a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, stretchmarks, acne, and pore size leaving the skin smoother, younger looking and more vibrant. Microneedling can be used on the scalp to increase hair growth and is more effective than Minoxidil (Rogaine etc…) in studies. Treatments are given once a month for 4-6 sessions for maximum results. In research, results are shown to last 3-6 years without maintenance.

Nanoneedling is a very similar therapy but instead of needles uses silicone tips that spread the skin on a more shallow level. It is very useful in between microneedling sessions to increase the speed of results as well as for use around the eye where microneedling cannot treat. Product absorption with nanoneedling is up to 97%. Nanoneedling can be done up to once per week.

How is MN from an Acupuncturist Different?

Microneedling from Mandala Acupuncture is different from PRP (vampire facial) and RF Microneedling. It’s more natural, incorporating light therapy and herbal serums. In addition, your acupuncturist can treat with nanoneedling &/or facial acupuncture between sessions to speed up results. Chinese medical lifestyle and diet suggestions are also available to extend the rejuvenation to the whole body.

Radiofrequency microneedling is advertised as a more effective scar treatment by some, however, no research has been done comparing RFMN vs MN (as off 10.22). Both have both been found to reduce scarring d/t acne and other types of scarring not on the face effectively. Radiation from radiofrequency exposure is considered carcinogenic and can increase the risk of cancer tumor development along with other multiple health concerns according to OSHA.

Topical Serums

When receiving microneedling at Mandala Acupuncture only vegan, natural serums are applied to the skin. Most of these are Chinese herbs with thousands of years of use to promote youthfulness & longevity. They include:

  • Apple Stem Cells
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Shiitake & Poria Mushrooms
  • Seaweed
  • Algae
  • Gotu Kola
  • AsparagusTuber or Orange Peel
  • Glycerin
  • Aloe

Light Therapy

LED light therapy and Far Infrared are used in conjunction with microneedling to boost collagen production, speed up healing, fight acne, redness and rosacea. Tell your acupuncturist or use caution/avoid if you are taking medication or have a condition that results in photosensitivity.

Contraindications/Cautions

Moderate to severe skin disease such as eczema or psoriasis, local infections like acne, herpes or warts, extreme keloidal tendency, pregnancy, currently on chemo/radiation therapy or other immunosuppressent therapy and anticoagulant therapy are all contraindications to microneedling. Caution should be taken to avoid local acne, botox or dermal filler injection sites. One month should pass after receiving microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, botulinum toxin, dermal fillers or IPL before beginning a set of microneedling sessions.

Before & After

After Care

  • Expect to be red for 8-12 hours after treatment, aloe vera can help reduce redness.
  • No exercise same day as treatment. Sweat can irriate the skin.
  • Stay out of the sun the day of treatment. Use a mineral sunscreen powder for a week after microneedling.
  • No make up the day of treatment.
  • Use hyaluronic acid the night of treatment and when you feel dry.
  • No facial soap the day of microneedling, wash with only warm water.
  • Back to your normal routine: Facial products have a much higher absorption rate the week following microneedling so be mindful of what you put on your skin. It takes at least 2 weeks to fully see the results of the treatment. You must wait 1 month to have another microneedling treatment done. Nanoneedling can be done weekly to speed up results.
